It is deeply painful to realize that our country is increasingly being placed alongside the darkest pages of human history—where people were punished for words as if they had committed grave, deliberate crimes. When a single comment can cost someone years of freedom, it stops being “a case about a post” and becomes a verdict on everything that was still called common sense, conscience, and the right to speak the truth.

8 years for comments on VK

Moscow resident Solim Kamina posted in April 2023 on VKontakte about a strike on a residential building in Uman, Cherkasy region. There were 11 comments under the post, in which Kamina argued with another person about Russian military strikes on civilian targets.

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow sentenced Solim Kamina to 8 years in a general-regime penal colony in a case involving so-called “military fakes” and calls for activity against the security of the state. He was also banned from administering websites for 4.5 years.

Kamina has been in custody since 7 October 2024.
