It has become known that Dmitry Sekushin has passed away — a defender of Shies, an anti-war activist, and a human-rights volunteer in Paris.
The exact cause of his death is not yet known. He was 52 years old.
We knew him. He was our friend and colleague. We met and began working with him when residents of the Arkhangelsk region were fighting against the Moscow landfill project at Shies and were coming to Moscow for protests and court hearings, as the environmental protection movement was taking shape. He did a lot of great work, was a warm and cheerful person — and he will be missed by very many people.
In 2022 he moved to Tbilisi. He loved Georgia very much, quickly learned Georgian, and helped others learn it too. And then, three years later, he moved to France, learned French, and helped our human-rights colleagues in Paris.
Dima missed his family deeply. In Russia he is survived by his mother, sister, wife, and son. It is very important to support them now.
