This story reveals everything: instead of addressing complaints about extortion and denial of medical care — even for soldiers with tuberculosis, HIV, and combat injuries — the FSB responded not with investigation, but with violence against the victims. 47 men were stripped to their underwear and forced to stand barefoot in the freezing cold for over an hour. Driven by fear of further abuse, the soldiers began swallowing nails just to make it stop. And this raises a question: if one FSB officer can break the will, dignity, and even the sense of justice of 47 armed adult men, what will this system do tomorrow to society as a whole, even more defenseless?
Soldiers of the 7th military base (unit 09332) of the 49th Army recorded an appeal describing abuse, blocked complaints, and complete lack of medical care. “We are not receiving proper medical assistance. We swallowed nails to draw attention. The FSB officer did not allow any complaints to go through,” they said.
According to them, the officer forced 47 servicemen outside, stripped to their underwear, and made them stand barefoot in freezing temperatures. Many had already been wounded in combat; some suffer from tuberculosis and HIV, yet are denied hospitalization and treatment.
To draw attention and stop the abuse, they swallowed nails. They say the nails have been in their stomachs for days, yet no medical help has been provided. One soldier said: “Out of fear that the FSB officer would continue abusing us.” Another added: “I thought they would bring us out again and I would die from tuberculosis.”
They also claim that FSB and military police blocked their complaints. Names mentioned include Chitadze and Gazenko. According to them, the FSB curator was drunk. “For three days now we’ve had nails inside us. No hospital is treating us. No medical care at all. We were denied hospitalization. We are being held like in a prison,” they said.
