This is the sentence handed down to Lyudmila Tetenyova, a pensioner from the city of Kurgan. Before her arrest, she lived an ordinary life: working as a cleaner, studying massage therapy, and helping to raise her grandchildren. Everything changed instantly after she clicked “like” on a video posted on the social network Odnoklassniki.
Due to the platform’s design, any reaction automatically republishes content on the user’s personal page. Without any malicious intent, the video became publicly visible — and this was enough to trigger criminal prosecution.
In the summer of 2024, Lyudmila was arrested. Following a fast-tracked trial, she was sentenced to eight years in a general-regime penal colony on charges of “calls for terrorism” and spreading “fake news” about the Russian army. An appellate court upheld the verdict, deeming the punishment “proportionate.” In December, Lyudmila was also added to Russia’s official list of extremists and terrorists.
