To a jail cell — for a gesture of respect and remembrance. This is how they now punish honorable and true citizens: those who remember, respect, and are not afraid to come with flowers. In a country of triumphant absurdity — for laying flowers at a spontaneous memorial at the site of the murder of people’s hero Boris Nemtsov, who was killed exactly 11 years ago.
Alexey Mosin was sentenced to 9 days of administrative arrest for laying flowers in memory of Nemtsov.
Judge Tatyana Chashchina of the Leninsky District Court of Yekaterinburg found Alexey Mosin guilty of organizing an unauthorized public event (Art. 20.2 Part 2 of the Administrative Code). The court agreed with the police version: in their opinion, if people want to commemorate someone, they should do it at home or in church, not in public by laying flowers. Thus, Major Otar Amoev “proved” the public nature of the action. Amoev also stated that Mosin had arranged with Mikhail Borisov to meet at Labor Square, which is why the historian was charged with organizing the event rather than participating in it.
Alexey Mosin denies any prior agreement with Borisov. He says he simply came to the monument to lay flowers, as he did every February 27. Police approached him and Borisov — whom he met there by chance — asked them to remove the flowers voluntarily, and then detained them anyway.
