“We were sent into what was essentially a slaughter. The entire company we joined was completely wiped out. Bodies were lying everywhere.”

Alexander Vasilyev, born on April 21, 1982, a serviceman of the 589th Motor Rifle Regiment of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (military unit 01007), recorded a video statement describing the consequences of so-called “meat assaults” carried out during combat operations.

In early November, he was deployed on a combat mission near the town of Pokrovsk (Krasnoarmiisk), serving as acting platoon commander. According to him, within just two days of assault operations, the company of the Russian Armed Forces in which his platoon was embedded suffered catastrophic personnel losses. As a result, the surviving servicemen were forced to abandon their positions independently.

“I don’t know what will happen next. We had to leave the position. Very few wounded remained — most were killed. By sheer luck, I managed to survive.”

Alexander states that commanders known by the call signs “Korshun” and “Spartanets”, officers of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, deliberately sent personnel into minefields and under heavy artillery fire.

“We were effectively being destroyed. Drones were constantly overhead, explosions everywhere. The entire area was mined — people ran and were blown up. The wounded were finished off with mortar fire. I have never experienced anything like this before. We were treated as expendable material — almost everyone was killed.”
